Every year, countless adults begin their orthodontic treatment journey. Many of them choose to get braces. Are you among them? If so, it is understandable if you have questions about how your treatment might impact your daily life, including your routine at work. This blog post aims to help you out. It provides five easy tips for wearing braces to work.

Pack an Oral Hygiene Kit

Oral hygiene is important for everyone, and it is especially so for orthodontic patients. It would be a good idea to keep a toothbrush, toothpaste, floss, and a floss threader in your desk or locker at work. Having these items on hand will make it easier for you to give your mouth a quick cleaning after every meal and snack. It may also spare you from the embarrassment of having food stuck in your braces!

Bring Your Own Snacks and Meals

When you first get braces, or your braces get adjusted, your mouth may be somewhat sore. A soft diet can reduce your discomfort, so instead of relying on vending machines or the takeout restaurant next to your office, try packing your own food. You could pack things like soup, meal replacement shakes, yogurt, and pudding.

Drink Plenty of Water

When you are hydrated, your body is better equipped to produce all the saliva you need. Both water and saliva can play a role in rinsing away harmful food particles and bacteria that would otherwise get stuck on your teeth and your braces. Try to keep a bottle of water with you at work so you can take frequent sips.

Do Not Chew on Hard Objects

Work can be stressful sometimes! To cope with the anxieties of the workplace, some people resort to chewing on pens or pencils. Not only is that habit bad for teeth, but it can also lead to a broken bracket or wire. If you need something to occupy your mouth, you can try sucking on sugar-free candy (just do not bite down on it).

Smile Confidently!

Some adult orthodontic patients feel self-conscious about their appearance after they get braces. There is no need to worry! If you smile confidently and maintain a clean mouth, other people are unlikely to give your braces a second thought.

Braces might require you to make some changes to your workday habits, but before you know it, your treatment should be an easy and almost effortless part of your routine.
